Important information about ordering criminal record extracts online
The Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) is receiving an increasing number of reports about misleading or expensive offers online in connection with ordering criminal record extracts.

  Misleading websites

The following websites do not offer criminal record extracts, but only chargeable instructions on how to order them:

  More expensive offers

The following private providers offer a service for ordering criminal record extracts from the federal government on behalf of their customers. This service incurs additional costs. Furthermore, the federal government cannot guarantee the order and cannot process any direct support requests:

  Official ordering options

A criminal record extract can only be requested at the statutory price via the following channels:
  • Directly online from the Federal Office of Justice: www.records.admin.ch
  • Or in person at any post office counter in Switzerland

Our advice: Before placing an order, check carefully that you are on an official website. This will help you avoid unnecessary additional costs.

New law on criminal records 23.01.2023
On 23 January 2023, the new law on criminal records came into force and VOSTRA, the new criminal records information system, went into operation. This results in several changes:
  • The standard private extract and special extract have a new design.
  • Ordering a standard private extract or a special private extract now costs CHF 17.
  • The new statutory provisions affect how long a judgment is visible on a standard private extract and how long it remains stored in VOSTRA. In addition, the requirements for registering foreign judgments against Swiss nationals were changed.
